DOE protests Athens City Council’s decision suspending the operation of Pakistani Community School
The Executive Board of Greek Primary Teachers’ Federation (DOE) strongly protested the Athens City Council’s decision regarding the practically shutting down of the school of Pakistani Community where the Pakistani children are taught their mother tongue.
Young learners were granted some classrooms for the lessons within a public primary school once a week, on Sundays. City Council with its decision denied to renew permission.
DOE fully supports the operation of the school of Pakistani Community, since, two years so far, parents and students certainly became richer in the area of communication and welcome of the Pakistani children.
DOE also believes that this decision might encourage xenophobic and racist actions like those organized by the fascist Golden Dawn Party two years ago, then strongly condemned by DOE.
DOE stands by the non negotiable right of all the children to access education and learn their mother tongue regardless their color, race, gender or ethnicity and demands from the City Council to review its decision.
