DOE meets students and teachers from University of Georgia, U.S.A.
Members of the Executive Board of Greek Primary Teacher’s Federation (DOE) met in Athens with students and teachers from the state University of Georgia (UOG) and informed them about the current situation of public education in Greece. The aims of the Federation and the struggles that are given for the achievement of them were also thoroughly analyzed.
During this meeting that took place in a central hotel on November 20th 2018 students and staff of the UOG had the opportunity to familiarize with the structure as well as the problems of the Greek education system through updated data. Topics that the speakers pointed out included the underfunding of the educational sector, the demands of DOE regarding the appointment of thousands of permanent teachers (there is zero appointment in the last years), the evaluation, issues of salaries and pensions, Special Education problems, the sensitive and crucial subject of Muslim minority and the education of refugee children.
Students and teachers of UOG were very interested by the presentations and posed numerous questions which were answered in details by the members of the Executive Board. A very constructive discussion concluded the meeting.
This was the second informative meeting to students and staff of UOG. The first one had realized last year.
